Malta offers three different ways for obtaining a second citizenship for those foreigners, who wish to relocate to the country and receive Maltese passport – a financial contribution to the Malta’s National Development and Social Fund, a real estate purchase or rental, government bonds purchase.
According to European Union (EU) statistics on international migration collected in 2015, the total number of immigrants relocating to Malta was 12 800.
Eligibility
A foreigner is eligible to apply for a Maltese citizenship, if he or she has reached legal age of 18 years, has no criminal record, does not have been refused entry to any of the Schengen countries, has stable income, a good health, can make a particular type of contribution within 4 months after receiving a Malta IIP Letter of Approval in Principle and can meet all the investment requirements listed below.
Requirements
In order to acquire a temporary residence permit of Latvian Republic on the grounds of purchasing a real estate property several requirements must be met.
Main applicant shall invest – 650 000 EUR;
Spouse – 25 000 EUR;
Children – 25 000 EUR each;
Children 18-26 (unmarried) – 50 000 EUR each;
Dependent parents and grandparents (55 years old) – 50 000 EUR each;
Adult children (wtill dependent) – 50 000 EUR each.
In order to acquire a second citizenship of Malta on the grounds of purchasing or renting a real estate, one of the following requirements must be met:
a property on Malta, which is worth not less than 350 000 EUR should be purchased for at least a 5-year time period, or;
leased for at least a 5-year time period with a minimal annual rent of 16 000 EUR.
The applicant must provide a documentary evidence of leasing or owning the real estate within 4 months after he receives a Malta Citizenship Letter of Approval in Principle.
In order to acquire a second citizenship of Malta on the grounds of purchasing government bonds, stocks or special purpose vehicles:
at least 150 000 EUR worth, which should be identified by Identity Malta and commit to keeping the investment for at least 5-year period.
Documents
In order to apply the following documents must be presented. However, this list is not full, as the Immigration Office may request other documents as well on case-by-case basis:
a copy of passport;
several personal photos;
a copy of driver’s license/ID (if applicable);
copies of documents confirming relationship: birth or marriage certificates (if applicable for family members application);
a definite sample form for a residence permit request;
a police clearance certificate;
a health certificate;
a certificate from the Maltese State authorities, stating that the person is really the holder of the investment made;
a travel/health insurance (prepared and submitted after a positive decision is issued). |
